Number of AIDS-infected people increased in south of Azerbaijan, 2 died in Lankaran

Lankaran. Aghaddin Babayev – APA. 2 people infected with AIDS died in Azerbaijan's Lankaran region last year, chief of HIV/AIDS diagnosis laboratory of the Lankaran’s Hygienic and Epidemiology Center Ramiali Ibishov told APA’s southern bureau. He said the number of deaths from AIDS rose to 64 in Lankaran over the past 10 years.

Revealing the statistics of AIDS Ibishov noted that while the number of AIDS-infected people was 531 in the southern region at the end of 2011, this figure rose to 618 (504 men, 104 women) by the end of 2012. Totally 24 660 people (19 812 men, 5600 women) underwent laboratory blood tests last year.156 out of 618 AIDS-infected people are in Lankaran, 156 – in Astara, 126 – in Masalli, 40 – in Jalilabad, 9 – in Lerik and 4-in Yardimli. 94 AIDS-infected patients were identified in the region in 2012, 68 of them were men and 26 women. 36 AIDS-infected patients were identified and registered in Lankaran, 28 – in Astara, 26 – in Masalli, 3 – in Jalilabad, 1 – in Lerik.
