Latif Huseynov addresses Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison Administration

Baku-APA. Chairman of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture Latif Huseynov attended the 17th Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison Administration on 22-24 November.

APA reports that Latif Huseynov made a speech on the theme “The Council of Europe standards on treatment of foreign prisoners” at the conference in Rome.

He spoke about the problems that foreign prisoners face in a number of European countries and explained the standards determined by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture. Latif Huseynov mentioned that one of the recommendations made by the committee to the member states is the handover of the prisoners to their native countries.

The delegation led by Madat Guliyev Deputy Justice Minister, chief of the Penitentiary Service represented Azerbaijan at the conference.

There are approximately 470 foreign prisoners in Azerbaijani prisons.
