Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. “Let’s forget the special director and computer effects in the film on notorious “21 December" and not be pessimistic: the world will not end tomorrow. Simply, the next astronomical phenomenon “winter solstice” will be observed that day. Our planet has been existing for 4 billion years and the scientists say decisively that there is no threat regarding 2012,” director of Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after N.Tusi Elchin Babayev told APA.
Asked what was the reason that the world was forecasted to end in 2012, he said: “These views were spread after the claim that the Nibiru (hypothetic planet discovered by Sumerians) started to move towards the Earth. First the end of world was forecasted in 2003, but it did not happen. Then it was forecasted for December 2012. The next nonsense was related with the completion of a period of the ancient Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012. Actually, does the Mayan calendar end in December, 2012? In fact, time does not stop every year on December 31 as listed in the calendars we use. Next calendar shows the start of a new year from January 1. Similarly, the Mayan calendar does not end on December 21, 2012. This date will be the end of this long cycle (about 5126 years), or the start of a new cycle in the Mayan calendar,” he said.
Babayev said that the Earth always faced collision of comets and asteroids, this potential threat still remains, but the probability of collision with large objects is very low.
"The latest such collision supposedly happened 65 million years ago and resulted in the extinction of dinasaurs. Such a collision is not expected in 2012. NASA is monitoring such objects," he said.
According to Babayev, the mankind will live, develop for 5 billion years, generations will replace one another.
"If the mankind does not destroy itself with nuclear or ecological disasters, the generations replacing us will discover other worlds," he said.
