Blood is collected from people and transfused to the patients, who need it. There is always blood reserve at the Central Blood Bank of the Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology named after B. Eyvazov under the Ministry of Health,” said the director of the Institute Sultan Aliyev while commenting on the issue about the lack of blood and delay of blood transfusion.
He said that sometimes patients with thalassemia complain of delay of blood transfusion: “But they should know that special blood is chosen for patients with thalassemia. Sometimes this process takes one or two days”.
Aliyev also said that blood reserve is being collected at the Central Blood Bank in case of war. He said Azerbaijan was at war and strategic blood reserves are collected at the Central Blood Bank. This blood may be only used in case of accidents in the future.
