A neighboring country is waging a drug war against Azerbaijan, said MP Hikmat Babaoghlu during the discussion of the report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2024 at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Human Rights Committee, APA reports.

The MP mentioned that every day, it is heard on television channels that individuals bringing drugs into the country are being detected: "Opium wars have always existed in history, and opium wars are classified as silent wars. Today, a neighboring country is waging a drug war against Azerbaijan. We all know the name of this neighboring country. We rarely encounter drug trafficking from Georgia, Russia, or Türkiye. But the well-known neighboring country is flooding us with drugs from the ground, sky, and sea."

Hikmat Babaoghlu also pointed out that one of the categories of the silent war being waged against the country is the sale of energy drinks: "We need to impose some restrictions on this. Those who consume these drinks develop diabetes between the ages of 22-25, and a sense of exhaustion arises. Those who drink these beverages do not have children; this is being used to destroy the gene pool."
