A conference titled “Connecting COP29 and COP30: Diplomacy, Action, and the Climate Path” was held in Istanbul, APA’s Istanbul correspondent reports.

The event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul, the COP29 team, and the Istanbul Consular Corps.

The conference focused on the decisions adopted during COP29, preparations for COP30, and current issues related to climate change.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Türkiye, Babatunde A. Ahonsi, congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful organization of COP29 and emphasized the importance of the decisions made at the summit.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and COP29 Lead Negotiator, Yalchin Rafiyev, stated that COP29 has once again and more powerfully mobilized the world’s efforts in the fight against the climate crisis. He noted that new outcomes were achieved at COP29 and the allocated financial commitment reached a record high in the history of COP summits.

According to him, this was one of the expectations from COP29: “Additionally, one of the successes achieved under COP29 was the conclusion of ten years of negotiations regarding Article 6 of the Paris Climate Agreement.”

Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Environment, Fatma Varank, highlighted Azerbaijan’s great success at COP29 in her speech: “As a closely involved country, we observed how Azerbaijan, through a quiet yet highly effective diplomacy, was able to achieve unexpected decisions. I congratulate Azerbaijan on this occasion. Of course, the outcomes cannot solve all global problems, but we believe that COP29 has allowed us to make significant progress on climate issues.”

The event continued with further speeches and discussions.
