Another case regarding the re-regulation of internally displaced person (IDP) status within the legislative framework is being determined, APA reports.
This is reflected in the proposed amendments to the Law "On the Status of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (Persons Displaced Within the Country)," discussed at today's session of the Milli Majlis.
According to the current legislation, an IDP loses this status when returning to their former place of residence, or when provided free of charge with another place of residence of a determined size in the same region instead of the previous place of residence, as well as when provided with housing at a level determined by a special state decision.
Under the draft law, a citizen will also lose this status if they refuse the aforementioned housing options.
According to the transitional provision, the IDP status of persons who, before the law enters into force, were provided free of charge with another place of residence in the liberated territories instead of their former place of residence, will be terminated from the date the law enters into force.
Under the new proposal, a person will be provided with another place of residence of a determined size in the region where they lived instead of their previous residence. Thus, the allocation of a new residential property by the state will serve to fully restore the citizen’s property rights.
The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
