Shusha's restoration efforts are not limited to construction and landscaping projects, but also constitute a strategic mission serving the preservation of our national memory and cultural heritage, MP Fatma Yildirim said during the discussion of the draft law "On the City of Shusha – the Cultural Capital of Azerbaijan" at today's session of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.
The MP noted that although the draft law may appear technical at first glance, it actually serves a very important purpose — the protection of Azerbaijan's historical and cultural heritage:
“Today, extensive reconstruction and restoration works are being carried out in our territories liberated from occupation, including in Shusha. Our city, which remained under occupation for many years, is being restored to its historical appearance, and life is returning. One of the most important issues in this process is preserving Shusha’s historical image, cultural heritage, and values shaped over centuries.
The city of Shusha holds a special place in the cultural history of the Azerbaijani people. That is why the protection of the historical and cultural monuments located there must always remain in focus. The sensitive approach demonstrated toward historical heritage and the city’s unique architectural style during the reconstruction of Shusha is commendable.
This demonstrates that the restoration work being carried out in Shusha is not limited to construction and landscaping projects, but also constitutes a strategic mission serving the preservation of our national memory and cultural heritage.
The development of Shusha as Azerbaijan’s cultural capital, the hosting of international events there, and the attention paid to the protection of historical heritage are clear examples of the high importance our state attaches to this sphere.”
