The Anti-Corruption Court spokesperson told RFE/RL that National Assembly opposition "Armenia" Faction leader—and former Minister of Defense—Seyran Ohanyan, a defendant in the March 1, 2008, case, did not appear at today's court hearing, and the court ruled that he be detained, News.am reports.
Second President Robert Kocharyan and several of his former subordinates, including Ohanyan, were acquitted in 2021 when the Constitutional Court declared the charge of overthrowing the constitutional order brought against Kocharyan unconstitutional.
But the Court of Cassation overturned this decision and sent the case for a new trial, under which Kocharyan and his aforesaid former subordinates were charged with abuse of official power, for which the statute of limitations has expired.
