MP: We positively assess growing support for Azerbaijan’s peace agenda in Armenia

We positively assess the growing support for Azerbaijan’s peace agenda in Armenia, MP Rizvan Nabiyev said at today’s session of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.

The MP stated that it is an undeniable fact that the peace agenda shaped by Azerbaijan forms the foundation for the region’s future sustainable development.

“One of the main pillars of the ruling party’s election platform in the elections held in Armenia was precisely the peace agenda put forward by Azerbaijan. We saw that there were various centers of power attempting to influence the elections, openly supporting their candidates and mobilizing their resources. Azerbaijan’s position, however, was different. We formulated the peace agenda and consistently promoted it. The President’s peace initiatives compelled the other side to retreat from revanchist policies.

It is known that during its initial period in power, the current Armenian government did not advocate peace and even attempted to continue its occupation policy. It was Azerbaijan’s peace agenda that created a new political reality in the region. We positively assess the growing support for Azerbaijan’s peace agenda in Armenia. This is because the other party to the peace agenda is the Armenian government, and the signing, implementation, and execution of the initialed peace agreement will be based on this responsibility.

At present, we do not have diplomatic relations with Armenia. It is very important that the peace agreement be signed and ratified after Azerbaijan’s conditions are fulfilled and that all obligations under the agreed 17 articles are fully implemented,” he said.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova also supported Rizvan Nabiyev’s remarks regarding the elections in Armenia and recalled statements made by President Ilham Aliyev from the parliament’s rostrum.

“The President himself said in this hall that our victory shook many layers and completely changed the entire situation in the region,” she noted.
