The Mountainous Shirvan region holds a significant place in Azerbaijan’s agricultural landscape thanks to its favorable natural conditions and abundant land and water resources, speaking at a regional meeting in Ismayilli dedicated to the implementation of the 2026–2030 State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Production and Processing, Ismayilli District Executive Authority Head Nahid Baghirov said maximizing the region’s potential through modern agricultural approaches remains a key priority, APA reports.

“The effective use of these resources and the achievement of strategic goals set by the country’s leadership are among our main tasks,” Baghirov said.

According to the official, Ismayilli has recorded notable achievements in the agricultural sector in recent years. He said the district’s diverse ecological and geographical conditions create favorable opportunities for the development of multiple agricultural industries.

Baghirov noted that differences in microclimates between mountainous and lowland areas extend crop-growing seasons, enabling farmers to supply produce to markets over longer periods and improve profitability.

The district has developed strong grain production, livestock farming, beekeeping, horticulture and vegetable cultivation sectors, he said. Beekeeping and fruit growing have played a particularly important role in supporting rural employment.

As a result of state support measures, farmers harvested 96,000 tonnes of grain from 31,000 hectares of cultivated land in 2025, while intensive orchard farming and vegetable production also expanded, Baghirov added.

Ivanovka Agropark Expansion

The official highlighted the Ivanovka Agropark as one of Azerbaijan’s leading examples of modern agricultural development.

He said the agropark has introduced advanced irrigation technologies, innovative orchard systems and a sustainable feed base for livestock production.

A major dairy processing plant currently under construction in the village of Ivanovka is expected to further strengthen the district’s agricultural sector. The facility, with an investment value of 10 million manats ($5.9 million), aims to modernize the area’s long-standing dairy traditions.

Once operational, the plant will increase production of the region’s traditional Ivanovka butter and manufacture a broad range of dairy products, including butter, cream, cottage cheese and both European-style and traditional cheeses.

Officials say the facility will produce thousands of tonnes of competitive dairy products annually in line with modern production standards.

Water Security Remains Key

Baghirov stressed that reliable water supply and modern irrigation infrastructure remain fundamental to the development of the agricultural sector.

The regional meeting forms part of Azerbaijan’s broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food security and support sustainable rural development under the country’s new five-year state programme.
