First lunar eclipse of the year to occur on March 14
# 04 March 2025 14:08 (UTC +04:00)

The first lunar eclipse of 2025 will occur on March 14, said the Department of Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU), APA reports.

It was noted that this will be a total lunar eclipse.

The eclipse will begin at 09:09:33 local time and end at 12:47:48. The event will last for 3 hours and 38 minutes. The total eclipse will begin at 10:26:06 and end at 11:31:26. The maximum of the eclipse will occur at 10:59:56.

During the total eclipse, the Moon will appear red-orange for 65 minutes. During the total eclipse, especially when the eclipse occurs near the horizon, the Sun's rays do not directly reach the Moon's surface but pass through Earth's atmosphere. As a result, short wavelengths (such as blue light) scatter in the atmosphere, and only longer wavelengths (such as red light) reach the Moon's surface and are reflected. This is why we see the Moon in a red-orange color during an eclipse. Such an eclipse is also called a "Blood Moon." The varying colors of the Moon during the eclipse depend on the amount of dust, water, and other particles in Earth's atmosphere. Temperature and humidity also influence this effect.

This rare event will be most visible in North and South America. In total, the total eclipse will be observed in the Pacific Ocean, America, Western Europe, and Western Africa. Since the Moon will be below the horizon during this eclipse, it will not be visible from Azerbaijan.
