A decision has been made regarding Yelena Khakhaleva, who was involved as an accused person by the Russian Investigative Committee, placed on an international wanted list and detained in Azerbaijan, lawyer Shahla Humbatova told APA.
According to the information, the request for her extradition was not granted.
The extradition of Yelena Khakhaleva to Russia has been refused.
It should be noted that Yelena Khakhaleva, a former judge wanted in Russia, was detained in January at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku by officers of the Police Department in Air Transport of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. A submission regarding her case was reviewed at the Khazar District Court.
On January 24, the Khazar District Court issued a decision to impose a 40-day detention measure on Yelena Khakhaleva.
The detention measure was chosen to carry out legal procedures related to her extradition.
Some time ago, the Russian side announced a search for her on charges of fraud and abuse of official authority, and the Rostov-on-Don court issued an in-absentia arrest warrant.
She is accused of embezzling 1.2 million rubles and falsifying documents related to the recording of working hours. The Russian Investigative Committee issued an arrest warrant for Khakhaleva and placed her on an international wanted list, with charges of fraud and official forgery brought against her on May 17, 2022.
Subsequently, an appeal regarding the change of the preventive measure for Yelena Khakhaleva—who was involved as an accused person by the Russian Investigative Committee, placed on an international wanted list, detained in Azerbaijan, and subjected to a detention measure—was reviewed at the Baku Court of Appeal.
By the court’s decision dated February 4, the detention measure was lifted, and a preventive measure of placing Yelena Khakhaleva under police supervision was chosen by the Khazar District Prosecutor's Office.
