Azerbaijani MP: Armenia does not have the right to appeal to International Criminal Court regarding Azerbaijan

"Through the La Monde newspaper published in Paris, 11 French politicians appealed to the French President Emmanuel Macron to take a number of measures against Azerbaijan in order to ensure the "security" of Armenia. Among these proposals which are peculiar to a person who is completely far from political morality and general international law, there are even imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan, sending of international peacekeepers to our country, and an appeal to the International Criminal Court, said MP Nizami Sfaraov at today's meeting of Milli Majlis, APA reports.

The Deputy noted that every international crime was committed in our territory: “Imagine, Azerbaijan’s responsibility is brought out whose population was subjected to ethnic cleansing, thousands of innocent people were victims of genocide and crimes against humanity, whose civilian population and civilian infrastructure was destroyed by banned cluster, cassete and phosphorous munitions containing all the hallmarks of war crimes, irreparable damage was hit its cultural heritage and ecological system. I would like once again to remind the authors of this absurd proposal, which is only the product of ill imagination in legal terms, that in accordance with the charter of the International Crime Court its jurisdiction applies to crimes committed on the territory of participating states. Only, in accordance with Article 12 of the Statute of the International Criminal Court, a state in whose territory international crimes have been committed and which is not even a party may adopt a special declaration and bring specific cases to the court. According to international law, neither France nor Armenia has the right to appeal to the International Criminal Court, contrary to the Charter. Only Azerbaijan can do it, which suffered from international crimes for a long time.”
