An article published by CNN about Azerbaijan during the Iran-Israel war was completely false, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said at a special session on "The Language of Peace and Combating Disinformation" held within the framework of the "Baku Culture and Media Dialogue Platform," APA reports.
The Presidential Assistant stated that this was technically impossible:
"How could Israel transport military equipment here?! If this had happened, it would have been very easy to detect it using satellites or other devices. These claims were impossible. Azerbaijan was geographically located in such a way that these claims were impossible. Disinformation occurs not only on social media but also in professional media.
This was part of a disinformation campaign directed against Azerbaijan. In other words, not only journalists and professional media but also diplomats became targets of this disinformation.
If journalists write about Israel's search and rescue mission in the southern regions of Azerbaijan, they must understand the terminology of a search and rescue mission. A search and rescue mission means that it involves destroyers [warships], special forces soldiers, as well as a logistics base, and the logistics base includes some other support elements and so on.
First of all, you see that they disseminate this information and bear no responsibility whatsoever. And sometimes they contact foreign ministries and say that this has been denied by an official source, but it is still being used and no apology is offered."
