Azerbaijan will be one of the countries most affected by climate change, Hande Harmancı, Head of the WHO Representative Office in Azerbaijan, said in an interview with APA.

She said thay we should not talk about climate change in the future, climate change is a real problem that exists now: "Climate change affects and will affect many countries in the world. Azerbaijan is also among the countries that will be most affected by climate change. Because Azerbaijan is one of the countries with high water stress.

The world is 4.5 billion years old. During this time, all living beings and life in the world have been destroyed and reborn many times. If the world is again under such a threat, we should know that it will be people and living beings that will be destroyed, not the world. That is why alarm signals are being given. I hope that countries can unite and solve this problem.

The change in average temperatures in the world has already begun to show its signs. For example, malaria is starting to appear and spread in areas where it did not exist before. Similarly, "Dengue fever". These diseases spread by mosquitoes are no longer seen in Africa but in Europe.

In 2023, the WHO declared Azerbaijan a malaria-free country. But these diseases have also begun to appear in countries that were declared free of malaria. Deforestation is losing the human-animal boundary, and human-animal contact is causing new diseases to emerge. Climate change and high temperatures are increasing the incidence of sunstroke in older people. In other words, climate change poses a serious threat to the human body."
