The destruction of an aircraft if it does not comply with specific requirements for an emergency landing, if there is incorrect information about the presence of passengers on board who are not at fault for the violation, or if self-defense is required, will be permitted in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
This regulation is reflected in the amendments made by the Cabinet of Ministers to the "Rules on the Use of Air Defense Forces' On-Duty Units and Combat Equipment Against Aircraft and Flight Devices Violating State Borders".
In such a case, a warning shot will be fired first.
Previously, under the existing rules, the destruction of civilian aircraft was only permitted if there was information that the aircraft had been seized without passengers and was stationary at an aerodrome. Even in those cases, a warning shot had to be fired first.
