With the exception of those convicted of grave and especially grave crimes, the categories of persons who will be released from imprisonment for a certain period regardless of the length of the sentence imposed as a result of the application of amnesty have been announced, APA reports.
This is reflected in the draft resolution of the Milli Majlis on declaring an amnesty on the occasion of the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty,” initiated by President Ilham Aliyev and discussed today at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building.
With the exception of those convicted of grave and especially grave crimes, regardless of the length of the sentence imposed, the following convicted persons will be released from imprisonment for a certain period:
• Persons who participated in combat operations for the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the Patriotic War and the anti-terrorist operation conducted on September 19–20, 2023, as well as close relatives of those who were killed or went missing in these operations;
• Persons awarded orders and medals of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participation in combat operations for the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the Patriotic War and the anti-terrorist operation of September 19–20, 2023, as well as for other special services (except for those deprived of orders and medals in accordance with the law);
• Persons who, by the date this Resolution enters into force, including during the Patriotic War, became disabled or whose close relatives were killed as a result of military provocations by the Republic of Armenia against the civilian population;
With regard to the above-mentioned persons, as well as persons who committed crimes that do not pose great public danger, amnesty will be applied by inquiry and preliminary investigation bodies, criminal prosecution will not be initiated, and any initiated criminal prosecution will be terminated.
