In order to identify victims of human trafficking and forced labor and take appropriate responsibility measures against persons who commit exploitation, 161 (2 facts more than in 2023) facts of human trafficking and 1 (2 facts less than in 2023) facts of forced labor were detected through operational and search measures carried out by a special police agency in 2024, as well as 44 (unchanged from 2023) crimes related to illegal actions with documents for the purpose of human trafficking, this was reflected in the Annual Report of the National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking (2024), which was discussed today at the joint meeting of the Human Rights, Legal Policy and State Building Committees of the Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan), APA reports.
It was noted that based on these findings, 15 criminal cases (1 fewer than in 2023) were initiated, and 16 individuals (2 fewer than in 2023; 13 women and 3 men) were charged as suspects. In total, investigations into 13 criminal cases (2 more than in 2023), including 6 from previous years, were completed, and 14 individuals (unchanged from 2023; 11 women and 3 men) were brought to trial. Convictions were issued against 11 traffickers (1 more than in 2023).
