Azerbaijan raises age limit of term of office for Constitutional Court judges

The age limit for the term of office of the judges of the Constitutional Court is being increased in Azerbaijan, this is reflected in the proposed amendment to the "Constitutional Court Act" discussed at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), APA reports.

According to the draft law, it is proposed to raise the age limit for the term of office of a judge of the Constitutional Court from 70 to 75.

Additionally, a judge of the Constitutional Court who has reached the age of 75 will continue to perform their duties until a new judge is appointed, but for no more than 6 months.

Note that according to the current law, the age limit for the term of office of a judge of the Constitutional Court is 70. A judge of the Constitutional Court who has reached the age of 70 continues to perform their duties until a new judge is appointed.

The draft law was put to a vote and passed on the third reading.
