The categories of convicted persons whose sentences will be reduced by six months as a result of the amnesty have been determined, APA reports.
This is reflected in the parliamentary decision “On declaring an amnesty in connection with the ‘Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty,’” adopted at today’s session of the Milli Majlis.
Under the decision, the sentences of the following convicts will be reduced by six months:
- persons sentenced to a fixed term of imprisonment for committing less serious crimes, whose unserved portion of the sentence as of the date this decision enters into force exceeds one year;
- persons sentenced to more than five years of imprisonment for committing serious crimes through negligence, whose unserved portion of the sentence as of the date this decision enters into force exceeds six months.
In this case, individuals to whom amnesty is not applicable under the law “On the restriction of the application of amnesty acts” will be excluded.
Note that the initiative to declare the amnesty was put forward by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
