"After the deportation of our compatriots from Western Azerbaijan, Armenians also committed genocide against the monuments created by our people for thousands of years," MP Aziz Alakbarov said at a conference on the assessment of the state of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia.
He said that 12 mosques were registered in the city when the Iravan fortress was captured by the Russians in 1827: “The French traveler and ethnographer Ivan Chopin later mentioned the names 8 of those mosques, while noted that 4 of them were ruined. Only two mosques were left in the city in 1988. Armenians burned one of them, while the other was destroyed by Iran under the name of a Persian mosque.
He stressed that the Armenians laid claim to all our cultural heritage, Armenianized it, and wiped out what they could not appropriate.
