Chairperson of State Committee: â€œAmendments will be made to the legislation to prevent selective abortion of girls in Azerbaijanâ€

â€œFor now, the number of women is not sharply lower than number of men in Azerbaijan. But in general, this problem exists. We always raise these issues. At present, the Social Policy Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament and the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs are jointly developing a new state program. That issue will be included into the new program,â€ she said.
Huseynova said that the committee would give recommendations about that problem during the discussion of the law â€œOn reproductive healthâ€ at the autumn session of the Azerbaijani Parliament: â€œThe issue, which causes gender discrimination, will be surely considered. The issue must be covered by the legislation. Then we will know that unborn girls are being protected by the government. It is very serious issue. Azerbaijan has joined many conventions, including UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and presents reports about it every four years. We will make a report in two years. So we want to solve this problem till that period.â€
