MENR: Dry summer season creates relative stability in landslide areas in Azerbaijan

According to him, one of the main reasons of landslide activation is atmosphere precipitation: “The summer season was very droughty for a long time. That’s why currently, the landslide areas are relatively stable, the activation process isn’t observed”.

According to Garalov, currently there are 220 landslide areas in Azerbaijan: “All of them were the places that subjected to be landslide areas from the very beginning. Simply, the landslide areas have extended their territories. Constant monitoring is being conducted in landslide areas. According to the summer passing and the coming of autumn season, it’s natural that the number of activation processes will be observed in landslide areas. That’s why intensive monitoring will be conducted in more dangerous landslide areas”.

Expedition chief said that the landslide areas are mostly situated in mountain areas such as Shamakhi, Aghsu, Ismayilli, Guba, Gusar, Lankarn-Lerik, relatively in Dashkasan-Garabay region and in Absheron peninsula.
