Baku hosts official presentation of Jeyranchol Clearing Project - PHOTOSESSION
At first participants became familiar with the stands reflecting the activity of ANAMA, as well as technical equipments of the agency. ANAMA director general Nazim Ismayilov made a speech in the opening ceremony and said that the work on the project was started in April. NATO Trust Fund supports the project and this project is the second big project carried out with the ANAMA-NATO cooperation. Ismayilov said that 64 mln sq m area will be demined in Jeyranchol.
Besides humanitarian mine clearance, the ANAMA director general said that the organization established training base with the assistance of the UN and experts from Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Georgia and Jordan have been trained in this base since 2009.
Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov recalled that previous Saloglu project was carried out within in the Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation and project mine/UXO threat in the region was eliminated as a result of this.
Speaking about the importance of Jeyranchol project Sharifov noted that the cost of the first stage of the project is more than 3 mln. The government of Azerbaijan will ensure 50% of the cost. Sharifov underlined that ANAMA experts work in accordance with NATO standards.
Speaking on importance of Jeyranchol project in the life of people Appathurai said that previous Saloglu project has been carried out at a high level: “Good results have been achieved in that project. It is a very dangerous work. These people face threat everyday. Jeyranchol project has a great importance as previous project.†Appathurai noted that ANAMA works together with Georgia and Afghanistan and initiatives of this organization spread beyond Azerbaijan.
