Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The first chorda transplantation in heart was made in Central Clinic Hospital in Baku, cardiovascular surgeon of the clinic Kamran Musayev told APA. 53-year-old Tamella Abbasova was operated five days ago. She had been treated for rheumatic carditis, rheumatism caused serious mitral valve disorders.
“We decided to perform operation and restored the mitral valve. The operation was very successful. The patient will be discharged today. We are pleased that we managed to perform such a serious operation for the first time in the country,” he said.

Musayev said mitral valve disorder is the second among the heart diseases.
“If there are serious processes in the anatomy and physiology of cardiac valves we perform operation. Until recently the main operation we performed concerning the cardiac valve was valve replacement. We replaced affected cardiac valves by mechanical or biological ones. Though these operations were useful, patients were obliged to receive diluents throughout their life. This caused discomfort, bleeding or thromb. Therefore restoration of valves has appeared recently. It means that the natural cardiac valve is preserved. Restoration of valves has been made in the Central Clinic Hospital in line with the world practice for about two years. These operations are considered hard operations. Now we restore not only cardiac valves, but also the chordas under these valves. Special material is used for it. They are brought from the US. This is called artificial chorda transplantation. We replace chordas by artificial ones and preserve the natural cardiac valve,” he said.
