“Despite the world financial crisis, compared with last year, 238 million manats more has been invested in education this year. Honorary diplomas were given to 247 teachers,” he said.
Education Minister said in 2009 the government spent on average 1176 manats on education of every student. Misir Mardanov said the number of preschool institutions reduced by 54 within a year.
“A decision was passed on privatization of preschool institutions some years ago. But they do not start privatization straight away. Therefore the number of kindergartens is reducing gradually. Misir Mardanov said 121 114 children will start school this year. Over 1 million pupils, about 75 percent of the pupils, study in well-equipped schools. As a result of the programs on the construction of schools, the schools with two shifts dropped from 73 percent to 49 percent and the schools with three shifts from 34 percent to 23 percent. About 600 schools are still in need of repairing. The Minister said one of the serious problems is the teaching of foreign languages.
