Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. APA’s exclusive interview with Georgia’s representative in Eurovision-2010 song contest Sofia Nizharadze

-Eurovision-2010 song contest will be held soon. What can you say about preparations?

-The song Shine that I will perform in Eurovision has been recorded in London. The single of the song has been prepared well, professionals help me in preparations. It is a great pleasure for me to work with these persons. The clip of the song is ready, it was shot in Kiev. Serious preparations are going on, the song is complicated enough, I will not only sing, but also dance.

-How would you assess your song, if you were in the jury?

-It is very difficult to assess yourself, the audience should do it. But I will do my best to get a high point. Those who participate in the contest do not think about the second, third or fourth places, everybody tries to demonstrate the best. All want to achieve the highest results. But it is impossible to forecast. It is impossible to say what the people will like. Eurovision has no song format. A song that is not in line with its format may win. On the one hand it is good, on the other hand we are anxious whether people will like it or not.

-From what country do you expect 12 points, if you are qualified for the final?

-Of course, I expect 12 points from neighboring countries. There are Azerbaijan, Turkey, Ukraine, Armenia among them. We are friends with these countries and have close relations with them. To tell the truth, I expect 12 points from Azerbaijan.

-You also participated in the national final held in Azerbaijan to choose representative for Eurovision-2010. How do you like Safura Alizadeh’s Drip Drop? Do you see Safura as you rival?

-I liked Safura very much. She is resourceful singer and her song is very good. I liked the other performers also. I don’t like the word “rival”, but I think about the high result. There are many countries to claim the victory. It is natural.

-You are probably aware of bookmakers’ prognosis naming Azerbaijan, Israel and Germany among the winners. Does it have any impact on your preparation?

-Not much… I do my best to represent my country and to perform excellently. It is impossible to say anything in advance. If we are working for the results, we should not participate in the contest. Such ideas are always voiced before the contest, but sometimes the results don’t coincide. Therefore I am working hard to see Georgia among the contest leaders.

-What country do you think to win?

-Everyone comes to win. Every participant thinks about the victory. But many things depend on a fated lot. If there is a fortune, it will come true. It is impossible to make prognosis, but I wish Georgia to win…

-Some newspapers claimed about corruption in the Eurovision contest. What do you think, is it a fair contest?

-I would like to believe that it is not so. I think both jury and voters will vote for real worthy participant.

-What factors are important to achieve success in this contest?

-There should be a successful song, good vocal skills, visual appearance, as well as choreography and costumes. They are important things. Everything should complete each other and be memorable. The show we prepared has everything.

-You participated in many contest and achieved quite enough successes. What encourages you to participate in Eurovision contest?

-I participate in many contests. It is necessary to gain experience. There was different situation in the contests I participated, but Eurovision is very different. They are usually voting for the country in the Eurovision which makes us more responsible. The participant becomes excited in this case. It needs to work hard to achieve successes and to move forward. It needs to work for the victory. It is very easy method to win by other means. It can not lead to success always.

-You were on a visit to Azerbaijan. What do you know about our culture?

-I saw changes during my last visit to Azerbaijan. I was happy to see that. I know Manana, who is an honorary artist of Azerbaijan, from my childhood. I like her as a singer and an individual. I know Maryam Shabanova and Milk&Kisses, who were the national selection finalists of Azerbaijan. I know Aysel, who successfully represented your country in the Eurovision 2009. I like everyone of them. I am very happy to see talented young people in Azerbaijan. They have very good vocal skills.

-Do you plan to visit Azerbaijan after the contest?

-I would like to visit Azerbaijan. Now I am preparing for the contest. I am expected to visit Azerbaijan within the framework of the promo-tour in the second half of April. I wish successes to Azerbaijan and other counties. I believe that every participant will achieve what he/she deserves.
