Winners of semifinal selection to represent Azerbaijan in Eurovision-2010 are already chosen

Today, the national semifinal concert for selection of nominee to represent Azerbaijan in the 55th Eurovision Song Contest to take place in May, 2010 in Oslo, Norway held at Buta Palace. According to APA correspondent, attending the national semifinal night, the event is conducted by the H. Aliyev Fund, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and Azerbaijan Public Television-National transmission council of Azerbaijan under “Eurovision” contest. The semifinal event began with triumph carrying of a lot of flames by national dancers in their hands symbolizing Azerbaijan as a “Land of Fires”.

Furthermore, Aysel Teymurzade, who represented Azerbaijan in the Eurovision-2009 and won the third place, sang his favorite song “Always” which has become one of hits of this song contest. Aysel Teymurzade and Arash’s press conferences, their performances and meetings in Moscow were shown on the wide screen, which set up behind the scenes. The announcer’s of the national semifinal night were Ilham Qasimov speaking in Azeri, and Husniyye Meherremova in English. During her next performance Aysel Teymurzade presented the audience her song, which was written by Arash while in Sweden. Then, singer wished success to all the semifinalists.

Among the guests, which caused a great surprise of the audience, was also Ruslana, the winner of “Eurovision-2004”, who greeted Azerbaijan people, presenting them three of her songs. The singer said it was a great pleasure to perform in the Azerbaijan scene, in front of Azeris. After her performances, she left the scene and went downstairs, approaching the former general director of Eurovision TV, Bryorn Eriksson. “I love Azerbaijan and kiss all of you, embracing you. I hardly find words to express my love to Azerbaijan. I always had pleasure to perform in front of you.”

Ruslana, who’s known for his astonishing dancing performances, showed the audience once again her dancing skills masterly. She presented the audience her best songs from her album, dressed all in white.

Milk&Kisses group members, nominees for the 55th Eurovision Song Contest, Feride Nelson and Dilare Kazimova performed their song “I’m on fire” written by them and composed by Dilare Kazimova and “Unformal” group member Dj Vuper. They also performed the special dancing fitting the music, which was all about the passion.

Elli Michiyeva, who joined Azerbaijan’s national selection for Eurovision-2010 from Germany, presented her song, “Up, up”, written by herself and Paulina, and composed by Isa Melikova. She also showed her dancing skills along with other three dancers at the stage.

The only male singer, Azad Shabanov, performed his song “Smile” written by Zehra Bedelbeyli and composed by Vusal Qarayev, known as Vaso.

The other nominee, known for her jazz music performances, Ulviyye Rehimova, presented her song “In love”, written by herself and composed by Sergey Quliyev and Samir Esedov.

The eldest female singer among the semifinalists, Sefura Alizade, performed the song “Soz ver (Promise)”, written by Gunel Musayeva and Zehra Bedelbeyli, composed by Elvin Musayev, which was accompanied by the dancing group “Nero”. She also showed her skills playing on saxophone, singing her song half in Azeri, half in English.

The last nominee, Meryem Shabanova, sang her song “I have had enough”, written and composed by her, which was accompanied by “Spider” show-ballet dancer’s group.

Note that, the songs performed by the Eurovision-2010 nominees included the national elements and national musical instruments.


After the nominees performed their songs, the winner of Eurovision-2009, Alexander Ribak hit the audience with his interesting speech. In the end, Azerbaijan Public Television’s General Director Ismayil Omerov, Rector of Baku’s Music Academy Farhad Badalbayli, Director of Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall Murad Adigozelzadeh, President of National Music Committee of International Music Council (IMC) Lale Kazimova, Conductor Azad Aliyev, Culture and Tourism Ministry’s representative Manzar Nureliyeva, as well as representative of Ministry of Youth and Sport Farhad Hajiyev were invited to the stage.

Chief of the national jury Ismayil Omerov mentioned this was second time that on February 2, the national selection took place. By the decision of national jury, three of six nominees “Milk & Kisses” group, Sefura Alizade and Meryem Shabanova have earned tickets to the final selection, among which one will be selected to represent Azerbaijan in the “Eurovision-2010”.

Note that, besides national Public TV, the national semifinal concert held for the selection of nominee to represent Azerbaijan in the “Eurovision-2010” was lively transmitted by “TRT Avaz” and Georgian Public TV as well.
