National semifinal concert for selection of nominee to represent Azerbaijan in Eurovision Song Contest kicks off

Baku. Ulker Qasimova â€“ APA. The national semifinal concert at Buta Palace for selection of nominee to represent Azerbaijan in the 55th Eurovision Song Contest to take place in May, 2010 in Oslo, Norway, has already begun.

According to APAâ€™s correspondent, attending the event at Buta Palace, the national concert is conducted by the H. Aliyev Fund, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and Azerbaijan Public Television-National transmission council of Azerbaijan under â€œEurovisionâ€ contest.

Six nominees qualified for the last round of the national selection and struggling for the Eurovision Song Contest are as following: Azad Shabanov, Ulviyya Rahimova, Meryem Shabanova, Sefura Alizade, Elli Michiyeva and Milk&Kisses group.

Azerbaijan Public Televisionâ€™s General Director Ismayil Omerov, Rector of Bakuâ€™s Music Academy Farhad Badalbayli, Director of Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall Murad Adigozelzadeh, President of National Music Committee of International Music Council (IMC) Lale Kazimova, Conductor Azad Aliyev, Culture and Tourism Ministryâ€™s representative Manzar Nureliyeva, as well as representative of Ministry of Youth and Sport Farhad Hajiyev are on the composition of jury.

The winner of Eurovisiopn-2004 Ruslana, Alexander Ribak of Eurovision-2009 and Aysel Teymurzade who took the third place in the Eurovision-2009 will also join the national semifinal night with special program. Besides Public TV, the national semifinal night will be broadcasting by â€œTRT Avazâ€, Georgian Public TV and will be lively transmitted at the www.itv.az.

Note that, the former general director of Eurovision Song Concert Byorn Ericsson is currently in Baku and will attend the national semifinal concert.

Today, the national jury will select three of six nominees to pass to the final national selection. In the following days, the national composerâ€™s will be given a task to write a song for the Eruovision-2010 Song Contest. And the final nominee to represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision-2010 will be known by the decision of national jury in late February.
