The Second Forum of Rectors of higher education institutions of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan was held today in Almaty, the Ministry of Science and Education told APA.
It was reported that prior to the official opening of the forum, a meeting was held between the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Emin Amrullayev and the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, with the participation of university leaders and representatives of relevant institutions. The parties discussed current issues related to the development of interstate cooperation in higher education, including academic mobility, joint educational programs, and the expansion of partnership relations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening academic ties between the two countries. He noted that the initiatives implemented have given new impetus to mutual academic activity and increased bilateral interest in the educational opportunities of the two countries. The minister added that currently 62 universities in Kazakhstan cooperate with 81 universities in Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the forum, it is planned to sign 63 new memorandums between 18 Azerbaijani universities and 29 Kazakh universities.
Minister Sayasat Nurbek also noted an increase in academic mobility and student exchange, stating that as of the end of 2025, 333 Azerbaijani citizens are studying at 58 universities in Kazakhstan. At the same time, 164 Kazakh citizens are studying at universities in Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the forum, Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev noted that the Second Forum of Rectors of higher education institutions of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is an important platform for the development of academic cooperation between the two countries. According to the minister, the expansion of relations between universities, as well as the increase in joint programs and academic mobility in recent years, demonstrate the real results of this cooperation.
In his speech, the minister expressed confidence that the new agreements to be signed within the framework of the forum will further strengthen partnership and create new opportunities for students and teachers.
Following the official opening ceremony of the forum, a signing ceremony of memorandums of understanding aimed at developing academic exchange, scientific cooperation, and joint educational programs was held.
