“Great planetary parade” to be observable from Baku

“Great planetary parade” to be observable from Baku
# 05 February 2026 09:48 (UTC +04:00)

An interesting astronomical event — the “great planetary parade” — will take place on the evening of February 28, Baku State University’s (BSU) Faculty of Physics, Department of Astrophysics, told APA.

It was reported that after sunset on that date, six planets — Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune — will be observed simultaneously in a certain part of the sky.

During this time, four of the planets will be visible to the naked eye, while two will be observable with optical instruments. Such events are rare, and the fact that they can be conveniently observed in the evening makes them even more appealing.

Venus, one of the brightest objects in the sky, as well as Jupiter and Saturn, will be easily distinguishable. Since Mercury is close to the horizon, areas with an open horizon - such as the seaside and places outside cities - are recommended for observation. Uranus and Neptune will only be visible through binoculars or a telescope.

For Baku, the most favorable observation time will be approximately between 19:10 and 20:30.

The simultaneous visibility of six planets on February 28 places this event in the category of a “great planetary parade.” Such events occur on average once every 10–20 years, and are even rarer under such favorable evening observing conditions.
