Those who destroy cultural assets through negligence may face up to two years in prison, APA reports.
This is reflected in amendments to the Criminal Code, the implementation of which was enacted by a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to the law, if a violation of the legally established rules for the protection, research, and use of cultural assets protected by the state results in their destruction through negligence, it will be punishable by a fine of up to double the amount of damage caused by the crime, or restriction of liberty for up to two years, or imprisonment for the same term.
The law will enter into force on February 1, 2026.
