U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Uzbekistan next month along with a delegation of American business leaders, it was announced by Sergio Gore, U.S. Special Representative for South and Central Asian Affairs and U.S. Ambassador to India, APA reports.
"I am pleased to announce that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead a historic business delegation of more than 100 American companies to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in mid-October to advance the U.S.-Central Asia strategic partnership and strengthen bilateral diplomatic and trade cooperation," Gore said in a written statement.
According to him, during this trip, Rubio will also participate in a multilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan (in the C5+1 format). They will discuss, among other things, deepening economic integration in Central Asia and strengthening energy security, Gore noted. Furthermore, he added, the head of American diplomacy plans to discuss with the leadership of Uzbekistan and colleagues from other countries in the region possible ways to expand trade and private investment, as well as economic modernization in Central Asia.
The C5+1 is a mechanism for collective US engagement with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Washington has been using it since approximately 2015.
