Fines for cruelty towards animals have been increased, this is reflected in the amendments made to the Code of Administrative Offenses, based on a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev, APA reports.

Under the law, individuals who engage in cruel treatment of animals, such as causing them pain, suffering, or torture, beating them, or forcing them to fight, will be fined between AZN 500 to 800.

If such actions are committed in a public or demonstrative manner, including through the media, the fine will range from AZN 800 to 1,000.

If these actions result in the maiming of the animal, the fine will be between AZN 1,000 and 1,500.

In cases where the actions lead to the death of the animal, the fine will be between AZN 1,500 and 2,000, or, depending on the circumstances and the identity of the offender, administrative detention of up to one month may be applied.
