Positions regarding the restoration of railway connections between Azerbaijan and Armenia are getting closer, said Charles Michel, the European Union Council President at a press conference after the meeting held with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels on July 15, APA reports.
Charles Michel stressed that the EU is ready to make a financial contribution in this direction.
"Over the past two months, the parties have made clear progress in the discussions on the opening of transport and economic relations in the region. We discussed ways of future transport arrangements that would respect the principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction and reciprocity. The construction of railway connections should be carried out immediately. The EU would be ready to provide financial contributions. Some details still need to be clarified, but positions on this topic are getting closer and options are being actively explored," Charles Michel said.
