“Concepts such as sovereignty, constitution, identity, freedom and democracy are particularly important for countries fighting for their sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic Robert Kaliňák said at a reception in Baku marking Constitution Day and Armed Forces Day of the Slovak Republic, APA reports.
He said that these words take on a completely different meaning in a country that has fought for its sovereignty and defended its territory: “Azerbaijan has shown that it is possible to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. I once again congratulate Azerbaijan on the successful outcome of its 30-year struggle. Together with our friends and allies in the European Union and NATO, we always say that we fight for peace and that peace is the most important value for our peoples. However, we do not want to be allies only on sunny days.”
He said that the security situation in Europe is complicated and noted that Slovakia supports its allies within NATO: “I am very pleased to be here, to celebrate our national holiday together with you, and to participate in the important ADEX defense exhibition tomorrow.”
