Pezeshkian: Azerbaijan has special place in Iran's neighborhood policy

"Azerbaijan has a special place in Iran's neighborhood policy," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said during a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, APA’s Tehran bureau reports.

According to the Iranian President's official information portal, Pezeshkian touched upon the dynamics of the development of relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of making maximum use of existing opportunities to further deepen and expand ties between Tehran and Baku.

"We are relatives and brothers. We must further expand relations and ties between the two countries by leveraging existing opportunities and the advantages of our neighborhood," the Iranian President said.

Pezeshkian noted that extensive ties exist between Azerbaijan and Iran in scientific, cultural, economic, political, and security spheres, and that joint efforts are required to further strengthen them.

Iranian President emphasized that the shared border should not be an obstacle to the development of relations between the two countries, but rather an opportunity to expand cooperation. Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached during meetings held with Iran’s Ministers of Roads and Urban Development and of Energy as part of Shahin Mustafayev’s visit, and noted the importance of accelerating their implementation.

"We hope that the agreements reached will move to the implementation stage as soon as possible through the serious attention and efforts of both sides," he stated.

Pezeshkian described the development of transport and communication routes as a key means of fostering ties between the two countries and their peoples. According to him, road, air, and rail connections between Iran and Azerbaijan need to be further developed.

During the meeting, Shahin Mustafayev also affirmed Azerbaijan's determination to further develop relations with Iran. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the implementation of the agreements reached and of developing transport and communication routes.
