Mahirgizi said that information acquisition from social media in one of the topics that causes the concern and interest in the Azerbaijani society: “Because, social networks are the main sources for the vast majority of our news resources. But unfortunately, social networks become the essence of information instead of source. Information obtained from social networks is posted on news resources without details and confirmation. Then, it is presented as official information. News websites and someone’s status on social networks or pages created on social networks have completely different responsibilities. The agency, which considers itself normal news resource, must bear responsible for its readers”.
The President of APA Holding added that news websites and news portals are different concepts. “News portal must be sufficiently many-sided and consist of a few sites covering several topics and fields in a website. Today only “day.az” portal is more and less corresponds to the structure of news portal in Azerbaijan. There is no such structure in Azerbaijan, including the websites of APA Holding”, she said.
“The reality is that today it is difficult to get information in Azerbaijan. Indeed, the rapid development of the Internet sufficiently helps us. Because a lot of government agencies don’t accept information delay. This is detrimental to their activity. I accept it as a positive trend. However, in general we still face some problems in getting information”, Mahirgizi stressed.
