Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. “All necessary conditions have been created for freedom of speech ad press in Azerbaijan”, Vugar Aliyev, sector chief at Socio-Political Department of the Presidential Administration, said at the 10th Anniversary South Caucasus Media Conference “Reflecting on OSCE media freedom commitments” organized by OSCE in Tbilisi. Vugar Aliyev made a speech at the conference.
Aliyev noted that regularly participating in the OSCE conferences on freedom of speech and press during recent 10 years, Azerbaijan informs the participants about the state of media, freedom of speech and press: “Azerbaijan has made great progress in the development of freedom of speech and press in the past 10 years. Azerbaijan abolished censor in 1998 and refused control over the media by abolishing Ministry of Press and Information in 2000”.
Vugar Aliyev said steps are being taken in Azerbaijan to improve social conditions of journalists.
“A lot of measures have been taken in Azerbaijan to improve the social conditions of journalists. 156 journalists have been given flats, a new building is being built for 240 journalists. Activities are being continued to ensure security of journalists and establish necessary conditions for their activity. Current state of media in Azerbaijan should be welcomed. No shortcoming or negative case is observed regarding Azerbaijan's commitments within the cooperation with OSCE. We do not admit the position of some NGOs and some circles. We consider that Azerbaijan is an independent state and has domestic and foreign policy. We will successfully continue our activities within this policy,” he said.
