The diplomat underlined high-level relations between Israel and Azerbaijan and the important role of media, including APA in the deepening of relations. The Ambassador stated that though Azerbaijan and Israel are small countries, their fates are alike and this alikeness brings them even closer.
Harpaz stressed that extensive cooperation was established between the two countries in politics, economy, defense and other spheres and 40% of the oil imported by Israel comes from Azerbaijan. The Ambassador noted his country is ready to share with Azerbaijan experience in four fields: “We are ready to share our experience in the spheres of telecommunications, health, water management and agriculture. Moreover, the opportunities for business cooperation are being expanded. Azerbaijani companies are operating in Israel and Israeli companies in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has become a country with favorable business climate and this is increasing the interests of foreign countries in the country.”
The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the attitude towards the Jews in Azerbaijan:
“About 35,000 Jews live in Azerbaijan. We are satisfied with the attitude towards the Jews. Azerbaijan is an open and free country, where there is no anti-Semitism and which respects the Jews and is distinguished from other countries for this attitude. One of the largest diasporas of Azerbaijan is in Israel. The people-to-people relations are also at the high level.”
Highly assessing APA’s activity, the ambassador stressed that the agency is a reliable source of information not only for Azerbaijan and Israel, but also for the entire world: “We are getting the most accurate and detailed news from APA. APA is also very well known in Israel, the agency's news articles are considered reliable and accurate. The embassy is pleased to cooperate with APA and interested in strengthening this cooperation.”
Mahirgizi noted that Israel is an important country for Azerbaijan and our country attaches great importance to the relations with Israel: “Problems faced by both Israel and Azerbaijan are making them closer to each other. Being media we are also interested in enhancing these relations. The support of Israel, the Jewish lobby to Azerbaijan especially in the Nagorno Karabakh problem is very important.
Speaking about the general state of media in Azerbaijan, Mahirgizi gave detailed information about the activity of APA-Holding.
Following this, the Ambassador viewed the rooms of the office and familiarized himself with the activity of the Holding.
