Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe has adopted an opinion on Azerbaijan’s draft law on defamation.
The Venice Commission’s press service told APA that the opinion was adopted at a session on October 11-12.
The draft law is a positive first step in devising comprehensive civil legislation in this field. But the commission noted that the draft was prepared in complete isolation from other parts of domestic law.
The commission stressed that no measures have been taken to address its preliminary recommendations and bring the draft law into line with applicable standards.
The full text of the opinion will be published on the website of the Venice Commission in the near future.
The draft law has already been included in the agenda of the autumn session of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
