If 3 out of 3500 NGOs in Azerbaijan don’t appreciate our activity during the discussion of the law “On defamation”, oppose it and some international organizations object to these issues adopted by us basing on national will, this is normal,” chief of socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told journalists, APA reports.
He said it is natural that approaches in the period of democratic governance differ.
“The main thing is that we are fulfilling the commitments undertaken before the international community. We are also doing our best so that the freedom of expression and speech is not restricted, journalists’ professionalism increases, Azerbaijani society does not suffer from it. We are doing it. Of course, we have supporters and at the same time opponents. This is natural,” he said.
Ali Hasanov added that the duty of journalists, NGOs and officials is to observe the ethical norms confirmed by the law.
“We always call on officials and journalists to observe these norms in the relations with media, NGOs. As journalists’ activity is more obvious, some think that remarks are connected only with journalists. Actually this is not so. Every structure, agency and person has responsibility in Azerbaijani society. All must obey it,” he said.
