Since 1998, the state has left media face to face with the society. Not everyone is a responsible person and has studied the rules of journalism. We faced a lot of judicial processes and a number of journalists were arrested after 1998. We even faced physical influence of some persons on journalists. But it was an important process and we were to face it.”
Chief of socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov said this addressing the event on “Azerbaijan’s media space: current situation and perspective tasks”, APA reports.
“As contrasted to the claims of some international organizations, free media exists in Azerbaijan. No one can say that he is deprived of getting or spreading information. No media outlet in Azerbaijan can claim that its activity is somehow banned. Of course, we are a big society and have not been insured against any events. There are facts of beating and trials of journalists. We do not claim that the society has been completely saved from these problems. But in general, the tendencies and priorities of media policy have conformed to our society. The main thing is that free media exists, anyone can be a journalist, journalists can collect and spread information about any event,” he said.
