Kazakhstan's recent state visit by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan also gave impetus to our bilateral cooperation, and our heads of state added strong dynamism to our partnership. Therefore, we must not fall behind — we should work in line with this pace, said Deputy Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, Kanat Iskakov, in his statement to APA.
Iskakov noted that the Kazakh government has proposed holding the next summit of information ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in the city of Astana, adding that within the framework of this high-level meeting it would be possible to discuss concrete projects with the heads of media organizations and achieve certain results:
“When we invited our partners, I emphasized that we are expecting all our friends — of course, the heads of state institutions, but also managers and leaders of media organizations, so that they too can reach agreements at their own level on implementing specific joint projects. I believe our projects will be interesting for our peoples, and we have great potential and great prospects in this area.”
Iskakov stressed that, along with highly effective cooperation at the state level, it is also important for OTS member states’ media organizations, television channels, and news agencies to engage in the exchange of experience and content, as well as to cooperate in forming a common agenda against fake news.
He noted that sometimes fake news is artificially created by various actors in order to aggravate the situation between countries or within a particular country, adding that cooperation plays a key role in combating such misinformation.
“Undoubtedly, the main tool in fighting disinformation is media literacy. The second important issue is cooperation between our media outlets and information resources. Through this platform, they can communicate with each other, exchange information, share contact details, call their colleagues living in other countries, and verify information. This way, they obtain accurate information and, before sharing anything, they can check it not only through official state institutions but also through the communication channels established within the OTS platform,” Iskakov said.
