A resilient fight against disinformation is of strategic importance for the media ecosystem, Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, said at the Turkic States Forum on Combating Disinformation held in Ankara under the organization of the Communications Directorate, APA's correspondent dispatched to Ankara reports.
Ahmad Ismayilov noted that the formation of sustainable models to combat disinformation is of strategic importance for the media ecosystems of countries.
According to him, false information and news disseminated for provocative purposes have historically been factors that significantly influenced the mass consciousness of people, but in recent times, this impact has become more widespread.
The Executive Director noted that while in the past disinformation mainly carried political content and was spread through content manipulation in traditional media, the situation has now changed fundamentally. It was stated that innovations brought about by technological development, along with media manipulations, create conditions for the faster and wider dissemination of false information.
Ahmad Ismayilov emphasized that, in this regard, regardless of its content, any country can become a target of a wave of disinformation.
He added that the Turkic states are also exposed to systemic information threats, and as the geopolitical activity of countries located in complex geographical environments increases, the risks of disinformation also expand.
In his speech, noting that this tendency is a common problem, Ahmad Ismayilov said that its solution and the strengthening of societies’ resilience against information threats directly depend on the joint efforts and solidarity of the Turkic states.
