Interference in information security is already a direct risk to national security, Javid Musayev, Head of the Communication Policy Sector of the Department for Work with Non-Governmental Organisations and Communication of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, said during his speech at the Turkic States Forum on Combating Disinformation held in Ankara under the organization of the Communications Directorate, APA's correspondent dispatched to Ankara reports.
Javid Musayev stated that threats to the information ecosystem are rapidly increasing in the modern era, and amid geopolitical processes, large-scale, including coordinated, disinformation campaigns have become one of the main risk factors.
He emphasized that it is extremely important to discuss these challenges in a timely and responsible manner: “The world is changing, the nature of threats is changing, and approaches and legal frameworks are being updated.”
Musayev noted that whereas threats to state security were previously expressed mainly through military attacks, and later through economic and financial pressure, today, interference in states’ information environments is considered one of the most serious dangers.
According to him, interference in information security now poses a direct risk to national security.
In his remarks, Musayev highlighted the particular danger of hybrid attacks, stressing that in this context, every state’s right to self-defense is of critical importance. He added that information security refers not only to the protection of state institutions, but also to the information security of every individual citizen.
