Baku hosts conference named “Media environment in Azerbaijan: current situation and new challenges”

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. The two-day conference named “Media environment in Azerbaijan: current situation and new challenges” is being held in Baku. APA reports that head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Roland Kobia said at the conference that the EU don’t want the mistakes on the restriction of media made in the member-countries to be repeated in partner-countries: “Freedom of media and expression are one of the fundamental values of the EU. Formerly the member-countries made mistakes in this sphere. Today, the EU is taking step towards protection of the media rights. We condemn all influences to the media. Azerbaijan has archived great successes within 20 years.”

Besides it, the ambassador noted that today Azerbaijani TV channels appreciate and praise the works carried out by the government, but various opinions are not observed in TV.”

Sector chief of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Vugar Aliyev spoke about the steps taken towards the development of media in Azerbaijan. He said that there are problems in Azerbaijan inherent in every society. According to Aliyev, the important discussions about the current situation and prospects of media in Azerbaijan are being held and it will be continued.

Oliver Money-Kyrle, the Deputy Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists, said that the development of media is one of the most important factors in democratization.

Aflatun Amashov, the chairman of Press Council, Vugar Safarli, executive director of State Support Fund for the Development of mass Media and the other persons made speeches at the event.
