Nushiravan Maharramli: Most of the TV presenters do not speak the Azerbaijani language fluently

Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA. â€œWe consider that the critical remarks made by vice-speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Bahar Muradova regarding the non-observance of the norms of the Azerbaijani language are right. There are problems concerning the protection of the norms of the literary language in the Azerbaijani broadcasting,â€ chairman of the National Television and Radio Council Nushiravan Maharramli told APA.

He said that most of the TV presenters do not speak the Azerbaijani language fluently.
â€œNeither the law on the language nor other legislative acts contain legal mechanism concerning this. How are the norms of the literary language broken? Who determines it? What measures should be taken concerning it? The legislation does not cover this. I talked to president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov. We will conduct monitoring together with the Linguistics Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. After that we will take measures. We can possibly implement a joint project together with the public organizations and Linguistics Institute with the help of the Fund of Support for Mass Media. According to the project, the current state of the Azerbaijani language in the broadcasting will be investigated and there will be expert opinion so that we can take measures,â€ he said.

Maharramli said the National Television and Radio Council can take concrete measures after the Linguistics Institute monitors the TV channels and gives opinion.
â€œWe can warn these TV channels, impose fine and take other administrative measures,â€ he said.
