Issue of heroin found on Eynulla Fatullayev discussed in meeting

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. Committee for Protection of Freedom of Speech in Azerbaijan held a meeting on the issue of heroin found on journalist Eynulla Fatullayev in jail #12, APA reports. Chairperson of Azerbaijan National Committee of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Arzu Abdullayeva expressed her views on the statement made by the Penitentiary Service.

Human rights defender Saida Gojamanli said she contacted chief of jail #12 Aftandil Agayev.
“Isakhan Ashurov also visited Eynulla Fatullayev. His urine and blood samples will be analyzed. Chief of the jail said he does not when the results of the analysis will be known,” he said.

MP Panah Huseyn offered to appeal to the state agencies and international organizations.

At the end of the meeting the committee made an appeal.

According to the Public Affairs Department of Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service, five prisoners were searched in jail #12. 0.223g heroin was found on Eynulla Fatullayev, 0.81g on Shahin Shamsiyev. Some of the heroin was hidden in Fatullayev’s jacket, the rest in his shoes. The gathered materials have been sent to Garadagh police office.
Garadagh police office has launched criminal case on the fact on article 234 (illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code.
